Revelation 3:14-21 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
This church seems to be the worst of all the churches addressed by the Lord. While many focus on the deplorable condition of the church we must first focus our minds on the intention of the Lord.
The reason for these writings is to communicate the heart of God calling His church back to fellowship with Him (to prepare for revival.
This character is borne out in the book of Hosea as God uses the prophet’s life as an example of His desire to redeem His people and Jesus’ own cry in Matthew 23:37-39.
In the final moments of history Jesus is again calling His church back to fellowship with Him but in order for true divine fellowship to take place some things need to be addressed.
The Problem - l Vs 14-18
The problem of the church comes from the difference between their own spiritual reality and their self-assessment.
He discerns our genuine state
He declares the church unfit for any practical purpose.
He desires a state that He can use for something.
The false declaration of spiritual position vs the real spiritual state.

The Proposal
The purchase of spiritual qualities that have been tested.
The pursuit of spiritual covering over the things that will cause shame
The pleasure of spiritual sight.

The Presence
The church controls the access to fellowship with God.
The call for spiritual vigilance to hear the voice of God
The place of spiritual fellowship to experience His fullness.
The power of spiritual authority to establish His rule.

Conclusion
The problem arises from these two issues among others:
Mixing the profane and the Holy. A failed attempt to mix two incompatible realities
The reality of self-conceit and self-delusion. We have set our own standard without regard for His.
