From Fear to Faith - A position of the heart

Luke 21:20-28 NKJV 20  "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.   21  Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.  22  For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.  23  But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.  24  And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25  "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;  26  men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.   27  Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.   28  Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 Separation from God leads to isolation and fear

Fundamentally when the heart of man is filled with fear it is usually because of separation from God

God wants that we be connected to Him so that we are not living in fear.

  • Fear breeds isolation

  • Fear breeds separation

  • Fear breeds notions of abandonment.

  • Fear makes us feel small and vulnerable.

God wants our hearts to believe in Him and through belief you activate Faith to fulfill the things that He has promised

2 Fear is born of lies and deception.

Where truth is known the power and influence of fear is affected.

All fears are based in the perception of a reality that God is either unreal, unable or unavailable to help us.

3. Fear is empowered by thought processes.

Proverbs 23:7 AMPC  For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost].
  • What you believe drives, your emotions and attitudes.

3a. Thoughts are things.

Like seeds sown in the ground they grow up and multiply.

  • Negative thoughts breed more negative thoughts.

  • Divine thinking fuels more divine thinking.

  • You become an expression of your thoughts processes and beliefs.

Proverbs 23:7 AMPC  For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost].
  • As a man thinkest in his heart so is he.

  • The heart trusts what it believes

4 Perfect love casts out all fear

1 John 4:18 AMPC  There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love's complete perfection].

In connection to God where the love of God is experienced and understood fear weakens and security and stability begins to grow.

5. Fear is breed by misalignment.

Where our connection to God is not believed by us and strengthened or developed fear reigns.

John 15:4-7 NKJV 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.   5  "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.   6  If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.   7  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

  • Abide in me and I in you and you shall bear much fruit...

  • But without me you can do nothing...

  • If you abide in me and my words abide in you you can ask what you will and it will be given you (or done for you)

6 Fear is impacted by our ability to be conscious of God.

Where the presence and power of God is not believed or retained in our consciousness. Fear will reign.

He has not given us a spirit of fear but power love and soundness of mind. We must retain the presence of God.

2 Timothy 1:7  NKJV For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

6a Soundness of mind

This is where your thoughts have been renewed and these new thought patterns are stable and believed.

From Fear to Faith - A position of the heart - slide 20
  • 70% of thoughts are repetitive.

  • 80% of those thoughts are negative

2 Timothy 1:7  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

7. The double minded man is unstable in all his ways.   Let him expect to receive nothing from God.

Jas 1:7-8 AMPC 7  For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,   [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].
  • When we are uncertain it breads anxiety, instability and fear.

  • Even though we accept certain things about God our double-minded position weakens our expectation of divine result.

  • We must strive for a fixed and certain belief.

  • If you believe you have received it you can have it.

7a. When the mind stops looking to God.

It begins to depend on its own concepts, imaginings...experiences etc. to determine its own reality.

  • Look to God the author and finisher of our faith

Hebrews 12:2 NKJV  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

8. Where you place your trust will significantly affect your peace and stability.

  • Emotional stability cannot be found is fleeting or changing things. If your stability is in your looks, education, bank account, job etc. all of these can change or be lost.

  • Only God is unchanging.

  • Nothing temporal is permanent.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.

Hebrews 12:2 NKJV  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

9. Life tests your faith...

Mat 17:19-21 NKJV 19  Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"  20  So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.  21  However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

Faith can grow and you do not need a lot of faith.. just a mustard seed

If you have faith as big as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain...

10. Focus on the good you desire, not what you fear.

See in your mind the vision of what you want to occur not what you are afraid of.  Say with your mouth those things you want to happen. Not those that terrify you. Build your faith.

Proverbs 29:18 KJV  Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
  • Without vision the people perish...

11. Rest is dependence on God

  • Where fear is defeated faith and peace grow.

  • My peace I give to you not as the world gives...

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

  • And the peace of God will guard your heart and mind....

Philippians 4:7  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
