By Bishop Dr. Eric Peters
Romans 10:1-4 KJV Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. [2] For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. [3] For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. [4] For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Paul is issuing a call to act. It’s an invitation to share in a spiritual assignment which is not initiated by a personal, selfish urge but by an understanding of the heart of God.
1 Corinthians 9:19-23 KJV For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. [20] And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; [21] To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. [22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. [23] And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
The purity and passion of Paul’s call is compelling when we consider the relationship he had with those whom he was advocating for.
It is not motivated as a response to him being popular and well treated.
He was not seeking the approval and acceptance of these people
He experienced the opposite.
Excommunicated from his religious sect
Persecuted by his own
It was driven by a heart that was aligned with the heart of God.

His prayer was not for political change but for spiritual transformation
His prayer was not about personal relief but about spiritual purpose
As we look at our region the Lord is calling us to be engaged, not out of selfish motives but by the spiritual imperative driven by a clear understanding of and commitment to the heart of God.

The Call of An Aligned Heart

1. The Invitation
Paul issues the invitation to those whom he believes should share the same passion and concern as he has.
2. The Impression
Paul indicates that this desire is not intellectually but intuitively, impressed.

3. The Impact
The impression generated action which solicited divine assistance without which salvation was not possible.
4. The Intent
The impact motivated a clear intent toward their encounter with Christ manifesting in their salvation.

The Challenge

1. The Devotion
Paul’s intimate understanding of their passion for God.
2. The Deception
The passion was void of any intimate relationship with God.

3. The Danger
Their passion mixed with lack of relationship created a personally manufactured spirituality.
4. The Direction
The absence of a genuine relation with God and creation of our own leads us on a path of rebellion toward God.

The Cure

1. The Standard
The law established a standard that all break on our best day.
2. The Substitute
Christ came and met the standard on behalf of humanity that now we can attain it through Him.
3. The Service
The accomplished work of Christ is established as an achievement to be fully utilized by all men.

Conclusion

When our hearts are aligned with God’s then our attitude towards our nation will change.
